Encrypted iPhone Backup

Many people have been encrypting their iPhone backup. This isn't wise if you don't remember passwords. The first part is going to be how to set up the encryption the second part is options should you forget your encryption password.

To set up Encrypted Backup:

Open iTunes:

Click on iPhone:
Click on Encrypt iPhone Backup

Enter your password (PLEASE WRITE IT DOWN!!)

You can always change the password by clicking change password but you need to know the password:

FORGOT PASSWORD??
This is a common issue here are some options:

  1. Try passwords:
    • Try any password you might normally use
    • Try a passcode that your phone had used
    • Try 1234
    • Try 0000
    • Try computer password (Login password)
  2. If that doesn't work backup old phone (or new phone) on iCloud. (If you are restoring then go through restoral settings (http://bethsiphonetutorial.blogspot.com/2012/11/restore-from-icloud-backup.html)
  3. Transfer photos and do a restore (this will cause all data to be gone from the phone but it is the only way to bypass the encryption.
